Autumn Colours

Dry but cold day today - just the sort of day I like to go for a walk. I chose to do my walk in Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

It's a lovely town, if somewhat hilly, so I thought I'd be sensible and only do the slightly flatter lower town (from the railway station down to the Pantiles and back) and leave the much steeper upper town until my health is a little stronger.

Having said that, I impressed myself by doing around 3.5 miles today, so I'm definitely getting stronger.

There is a lot of history and some marvellous buildings in its own old-fashioned way. It's primarily Victorian and Georgian, and was one of Queen Victoria's favourite places. The upper echelons of society came here to drink the waters - but more of that later.

I started off on the right foot, by being offered a cup of coffee in the very modern Christ Church by a lovely lady who was a  delight to chat to. Then later on, a chat with a gentleman in the Church of King Charles the Martyr, who had some amazing information about not only this church, but also about his ancestors who are immortalised on Langley church, just outside Maidstone.

So, usual thing - a couple of days to edit the pictures and do some research, and I need to make a page for Tunbridge Wells.
