Hertfordshire Zoo, previously known as Paradise Wildlife Park and before that as Broxbourne Zoo, is a family-run wildlife park and charity just outside of Broxbourne, and a short trip off the A10. It was still Paradise Park when I took my husband to feed the tigers. (They refused to eat him! BTW)
It's a pretty zoo, with the animals in large enclosures, where they have plenty of hiding places when they want to get away from people
As a rule, I don't approve of zoos as a spectacle, but I do see the need for them as regards the breeding and preservation of endangered species, and all their good work needs to be paid for somehow.
So, just a few pictures - mostly of their tigers, Rocky and Narnia. Rocky was the softest big pussycat you can imagine
Firstly, everybody's favourites - Meerkats
Play spot the timber wolf................
Red Panda
And finally, tigers
Narnia is a White Tiger, and very small in comparison with Rocky, who stands around 10 feet on his hind legs with his front paws raised. He's a cross-bred Siberian/Burmese
Both tigers have been neutered. Narnia, because all white tigers have originated from one male that was found in the wild, and are now so inbred that they often are born with horrible abnormalities.
Rocky was neutered as he is a cross-breed, and the aim of the Big Cat charity, is to only breed pure strains to return to the wild, and to conserve the few remaining species of tiger
